You guys have been reblogging adding a lot of good points and I commend and seriously take them into consideration.
However, some points you pull out have already either be proven wrong or logically knocked down.
So here’s a list of why some things wont work and why this subject is SO crazy to me.
1. English is not easy nor is it hard.
Reason why I didn’t say English is easy to learn…. cause its not. on a lingusitc scale its just as easy to learn as Chinese. they ALL are difficult cause its new to us. and if that was the case that English is easy, we all would be fluent in German and Spanish cause we are so close to the same structure of the languages.
On the contrary to that. yes romance and Germanic are pretty much the parent language of English, but we are so far off now its not even funny so its one reason why fluent speakers aren’t as fast as the twins. However if it was a pidgin( creole) and given a lot of time the speaker would be fluent in English probably. but depends on what type of pidgin.
2. As an Adult you worry what others think so you need a kid mind set
No its not cause the boys are so playful. I mean there are tons of people that are just as goofy but don’t pick up language. it’s more of being exposed to language that makes it easy for bubbly people to learn a language. If you don’t practice it you won’t get it. However, as an adult your more prone to be stressed by other things around you so you lack focus when practicing. Going on to that as adults we already set our ways with a language. from birth to puberty we construct a language grammar to make the language we learn our own.
3. Music has nothing to do with it.
It actually does. There are tons of friends that I know learn English from music and even TV. its a direct connection to the culture that speaks the language. even better it gives example situation on where you would use certain phrases and slang. that’s why being fluent in a language means you can basically blend into the culture too. Language and culture run hand and hand.
Anyways I think a lot of people missed why this is Amazing and odd.
MOST PEOPLE CAN’T LEARN A LANGUAGE AT THAT AGE!
I’m not saying its impossible because obviously the twins did it.
BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY!!!
HOW did they do it and HOW did they do it so fast?
it’s simply not just exposer to english speakers, because….
if we tested it out by putting a random person in France who is only fluent in English and the same age as the twins. they probably would only pick up the necessary parts of the language but wouldn’t understand much of the culture. overall they wouldn’t be on the fifth stage of acquisition ( stage before fluency) in such a short time.
**and I plan on testing this theory by doing it myself. **
So that’s why i’m looking at all the aspects of dance, music, travel, fashion, etc.
But it’s just a study I want to do for my major. I think I’m digging to far into it now… I’m using too many big words for simple terms. -.-
I just realized a very odd fact about the twins.....
Since I’m focusing on my major finals now, I was going over children acquisition in learning languages ( if you need an explaination or just curious as to what it is just message me, helps me study -.-)
Anyways! It has a rule that children ( humans) only have a limited time to learn a language fluently. from birth to puberty (13-14). From that age range, kids can learn any language with ease and still feel fluent in it, as long as they are exposed to that language during that time.
So what’s this have to do with the twins?
Well if you’ve been a fan forever, you notice that their transition from fluent french to english has improved rapidly in like what the past 2-3 years. I know they have been practicing probably before that, but! They are becoming more fluent with the language more and more compared to most that change languages. and…
THEY ARE 23!
SO in all, they are on a path of defying the law of having a set age range in being fluent in the language. I say maybe in the next year or so if they continue with the practice they will be speaking english better than half of us already do.
Now my job is to find out what, why and how are they learning english so fast and easy. Is it the music they listen to? Does dance have anything to do with it? Is it only going to work with french speakers?
regardless I think i might do a short study on it and use it for a Lingustic project. Wish me luck!
P.S. sorry that was so long. but I love that I can combined my passion for language with my passion for twins and dance!
